lotd290415 - GTA Special!

I've been playing Grand Theft Auto V for the last few days, as is the craze on Plurk. I played it on PS3 when it first came out, although it's more accurate to say that I assisted my husband. I'm good at the tedious bits. Not so much at the shooty bits. So I'm progressing rather slowly in the story mode, and in Online mode....let's just say I got distracted by the tedious bits. Right now, I've been concentrating on leveling my character's stamina. By cycling around the map a bunch of times on a really expensive yellow bicycle. I know, I'm lame.

For my look today, I have attempted to recreate to look of my character in the game, and I think I did an okay job. Second Life Nivaya is rather more polished than GTA Nivaya, she also is, um, rather less mannish, shall we say. Because my goodness do female player models in GTA have the broadest shoulders.

The easiest part of my outfit was the glasses, I knew I had some fantastic decorated vintage cateye glasses by Yummy from a few rounds back of Colabor88. Next, the red skinny jeans. I was sure I had something in my inventory, but nothing was quite the right shade. My GTA character's pants are very very red, I've spent enough time looking at them while she's cycling to know how red they are. The ones I eventually bought were from Sakide, whose skinny jeans I'm a big fan of and I know she doesn't wimp out on the bright colours.

Surprisingly much harder to track down was a black and white striped tank. I would have thought it was a fairly basic item, but I tried all my old standbys for basics and all of them turned up nothing. On my search I found a lovely yellow bike to pose with! Eventually Tee*fy came close enough to what I was looking for, it wasn't full-length or racerback, but I filled the gaps in with an applier tank. Also surprisingly tough to find were just the right kind of skate shoes.

I didn't expect to find exactly the right hair, and I wasn't disappointed. My GTA character's hair is a frizzy disaster, but this hair by Ploom paired with the awesome group gift hairband from Magika I think I've featured here before. It's incredibly versatile, colour-change AND tintable.

The hardest part was the pizza tattoo my GTA character has. Such a thing does not exist in SL as far as I could find. I asked if anyone could quickly make me a custom one with a Slink Physique applier, but nobody was free to do that and then someone reminded me about the Slink Personal HUD, which allows you to make your own tattoos and the like for personal use. After a Google image search and an unspecified amount of time in Photoshop, I dropped my texture into the HUD, and here I am with a completely appropriate pizza tattoo, yay!

After that, all that was left to do was the makeup, a simple enough task with an inventory like mine (I speculated her polish would be chipped), and a gun, which I know nothing about and the Marketplace furnished me with something that looked more or less correct. And there I was. More or less the same person! Hooray!

Just so you know, that christmas tree there, she's not really that big. She's actually a cute cuddleable plushie tree, by my favourite plushie-enabler, silentsparrow, and is in Fifty Linden Friday today AND comes with Transfer perms for gifting. I just made her really big because I can!

I got new eyes this week, by Buzzeri as before, these are the Lillian eyes from this month's Kustom9, as is my lovely cascading locks by Olive. I have a serious Olive hair habit, I am not ashamed to admit it. I love the super fluffy texture and knitty band of my earmuffs, which are by Noodles, and includes the cutey bow on tip.

My top by Moon Amore may not be the most obviously festive choice, but I dig the old 3d glasses-needing effect of the graphic, and it comes with a great HUD that allows you to customize the look of the sleeves and cuffs as well as changing the design on the front. My glam-rock platform boots by Insanya are at the FROST event and come in 8 colours and have a bunch of options as well as being comfortably compatible with Slink and Belleza mesh bodies.

I think this eyemakeup by The Wicked Peach is genius! So subtle and effective. It's a Rare item from the Gacha Garden at this month's The Liaison Collaborative, and the other makeups in the machine are pretty special too. My nails are La Boheme in the Feel My Sack hunt and unfortunately I didn't photograph them so well, they're really quire lovely and detailed.

Stuff I bought at Fashion for Life 2012 - Part The Third

So, I'm not a big gown person. I'm neither a person of big gowns, or a person who is big on gowns. I think that pretty much covers every permutation of the phrase.
For a start, I'm not so good at elegant, oh my no. I end up doing stuff like wearing sneakers with them, or putting a cardigan over them, or holding a bunny, or something. It's my way. Secondly, they generally don't suit my shape well. I used to wear them a fair amount when I was hosting fashion shows, back in the day, but that's ancient history. But when wandering around Fashion For Life 2012, I found my eye variously caught by gowns, a whole genre of clothes I would normally overlook, and thought to myself "O hay, there's a whole genre of clothes I would normally overlook, boo" and went on a quest to find some that I liked, which I would post on the last day of Fashion For Life as like a...thing. Y'know. A thing.

And today is the last day of Fashion For Life! So, first of all, go there (before midnight SLT), go buy everything you can see, and for heavens sake, buy a pile of raffle tickets, there are tons of amazing prizes on offer, and tickets are 100L each or 3 for 250, all money going to the American Cancer Society and therefore, good causes. Also don't forget to pump lots of money into those wonderful gachas dotted around, and oh, all the things!

So anyway, I bought gowns. Here is one of them. This is the kind of thing I end up doing, you see. Knee-socks and sandals. I'm not dramatic. But this gown by Basiastice is. It comes with two different styles of skirt, this one, with the from all tulle and see-through, and the back forming a sort of bustle effect, and the other which has a more traditional, solid front. It is variously adorned with black roses, including the one tucked behind my ear there. I particularly adore the fact that it has delicate little straps, which seems to give the whole bodice a more sophisticated structure than if it was left strapless. The necklace and earrings are by Je Suis at FFL, and are endlessly customizeable and massively versatile. The aforementioned knee-socks and sandals are another bargain from Azoury at FFL, and I thoroughly dig that they don't match at all. As for my makeup, the barely-visible eyeshadow there is from the Mock gacha, and the very one that eluded me so much and caused me to throw literally thousands of L$ at it in an attempt to get it. It's worth it though, I loves it all up.

So for this second gown, from Purple Moon, I made the attempt to actually, like, look like a grown up. I literally had to "grow up", by making my legs quite a bit longer (for both of these dresses...so that's another way in which I'm not a big gown person, I'm mostly too short to not look super-weird in them), and filled out my boobs a bit in Photoshop. Since what I first liked about this dress was how the bodice was like strips of silk, cupping the boobs, but not looking even remotely skanky, and I was disappointed when on my no-boobs it didn't look as good...I'm really really not built for pretty gowns. This one is so fun though, with its epic feather collar, and puffy train. I also like the black lace insert at stomach level, which goes around to the back, and adds an extra layer of texture. If I was the sort of person who wore gowns, I'd go swishing around in this all over the place.

I'm not though, so if you'll excuse me, I'm going to make a last circuit of FFL and look for some cardigans.
