As it tends to be, it's been a long time, but here I am again. Yay me. 

My circumstances have changed lately. You might notice I'm tall again. I still can't say grown-up. I've had to put a lot of things behind me, a lot of wonderful things, and to go back to being just....not-a-kid. It feels weird and void and empty and lonely and I don't know what to do or how to act. But I can't go back. 

So I'm doing the only thing I knew how to do before. This. 

So I'm rusty, and I'm old fashioned, and my head is made of system. But I'm back here again, doing what I can. I don't really remember the etiquette of posting, even, after what's basically been a year. So don't mind me if I mess up.

Ohai, remember when I used to blog? Yeah, me either, but here I am, smaller than ever! Various changes have occurred, various busy-ness and family-ness and other excuses, which have led me to decide to switch my the focus of my blog to kids stuff, since I've been a grownup, idk, 5 times since I last posted back in August. So if you were here for the occasional sideboob I'd throw out there, soz, you're out of luck, I'm cute now.

So yesterday I went to a party, which isn't as rare an occurrence as it used to be, and it was a Dia de los Muertos party and seriously, any excuse to dress for that (see: last year). Added to that, the single biggest thing I miss now that I'm mostly a kid, is wearing makeup, and this is ideal. The millions of layers we can now wear really helps with this - my sugar skull makeup is from La Boheme and actually comprises 3 individually tintable layers, which are available in various transparencies too, for a whole lot of color customization options. With it, in my face pic, you can see this amazing gold under-eye liner made by takagigraves, owner of Oleander, some years ago, and isn't actually available to buy. He mentioned it on Plurk as I was writing this and Iwaslike "OMGYAAAASSS" and politely demanded it and retook the one pic. I love the extra dimension it adds. 

My flower headbands are by Cosmic Dust and I completely love. My earrings are from Schadenfreude, from the Pearl Mori set. The top of my dress is from a halloween costume I was wearing, Ariel Day Dress by tinyOwl, but I thought it went well for the look I was going for here. The skirt is by Ugly Ducking, and is in two pieces, I ran into a friend wearing it and instantly hurried out to get it myself, in several colors. I have no shame. The tights are by Turducken, bought in a flurry of tights-excitement as the weather got colder, and my boots, oh man, I hope they release more of. They're by Dappers and Darlings at Limited 50, and are all Halloween-themed but they're so nicely made, I love them. The Materials on them is great. 

I didn't suddenly become good at decorating, my pictures were taken on-location where the party was, most of the stuff here is from New Trails and sadly no longer available.

Obligatory Hair Fair 2014 Post! Part Three: So Many Hairs!

Blues - Annie: Blues made its shiny debut at this years Hair Fair. With the same owner as Okkbye, whose fresh-faced cosmetic items I am a fan of, Blues hair has a very cute, natural, easy-to-wear feel about it, realistically messy and casual. This first hair, Annie, with its little tiny ponytail, makes me feel a bit like Jim Hawkins in Disney's Treasure Planet. This is a good thing.

Blues - Rosalie: I'm a sucker for this kind of style, and for straight bangs. As is the fashion these days, Blues hairs come with the different colours on a HUD, and here I'm wearing one of the brighter reds included, as I felt befit the style more.

Clawtooth - Cherry Bomb: I remember the first year Clawtooth was in Hair Fair, when Clawtooth was still super-obscure. It makes me feel kind of old.  Cherry Bomb is a comfortable shirt wavy style with a short parting. It's nice. I should note that I always tint Clawtooth hairs. In my pictures seen here I'm actually wearing Red Eye Flight tinted a pale salmon colour.

Blues - Emilia: This is my favourite of the Blues hairs I bought. I am completely in love with the awkward little straight-cut bangs it has. It's got a delightfully mid-90s feel to it.

Clawtooth - Color Me Pretty: This is the kind of hair Clawtooth does best, lush, thick-looking, long wavy styles. Can never have enough lush, thick-looking long wavy styles from Clawtooth.

Lamb - Nothing: This is a versatile short style by Lamb, who I bought a few styles from this year. A nice thing about this hair is that the shorter part can be either removed for a part-shaved look, or even coloured differently from the rest of the hair as I have done here. It could also probably be worn on its own but I fear that would look silly.

Lamb - Sacred: This is a classic Lamb style, I think I have an old version or something very similar in sculpt. I'm very happy to have a mesh version of it, because I completely dig this.

Lamb - Dream On: I am as much a sucked for a good twin braid style as I am piggie buns. I love how these have a slightly wonky aspect to them, they put me in mind of my own somewhat sideways attempts at doing anything at all with my hair in RL.

Weekly Rainbow Parts: Patina

Last weekend, my husband bought a whole pile of Lego minifigures, because the new 6th series of them is awesome. My 7 year old daughter opened one of them, and it was the Statue of Liberty! Being not-American, she didn't know anything about it other than the name, so we spent the rest of the afternoon on-and-off talking about it, and spotting it in the background of various things and such, and my (American) husband explained to her that at first, it wasn't that greeny colour, it's actually copper that oxidized, and then I learned that that greeny effect is called a "patina".

And I was like "Oh."

Because I'd already done my picture for Week 5 of Luna Jubilee's 52 Weeks of Color - Part Deux challenge and posted it, and I'd interpreted "patina" quite badly, considering it something I could just sub in turquoise for, when I now knew it was a quite particular shade. Luckily for me, though, I'd made (or at least tried to make) the focal point of the picture the gorgeous makeup made by Mocksoup Graves, and she'd been clever enough to not Doin It Rong.

So if I may for a moment flail and praise the makeup of Mock Cosmetics. In my opinion, the bestest of all makeups on the grid, and the makeup I wear almost exclusively, she's also super generous with group gifts and and and has a friendly group and a pretty shop and the point is, Yay!

This particular makeup also goes real pretty with my eyes, which I don't credit enough, but they're the Treeflake eyes by Schadenfreude. Whenever I try on new eyes, I'm like "Yeah, these are nice" and then putting my Treeflakes back on as quick as I can. They're called Treeflake because if you zoom right in, you can see that they're like a paper cut-out snowflake, with the cutout being a Tree! The other colours have other shaped cutouts. They're delightful.


But the point in my original ramble there is, it always pays to do a little bit of research into why the chosen colour is named as it is, instead of just guessing or trusting that kind designers will do all the work for you.


It is supposed to be a challenge, after all.
